ISJ Spring 2023: Where Do International School Leaders Look To For Their Moral Compass? / Terry Haywood

Questions about morality have not figured prominently in the discourse on international education. Considering the extent of virtue signalling across the sector, exemplified through claims about international mindedness, global citizenship, intercultural understanding or “making a better world,” this is something of a surprise. Moral thinking infused the idealism that laid the foundations of international education and inspires many educators to this day, while moral challenges are a feature of professional experience for leaders in international schools.
