ISJ Spring 2023: The Journal Is Born / Mary Langford

I remember vividly the first time I met Edna Murphy, founding Editor of the International Schools Journal, in 1981. We were at a meeting with the six campus principals of the American Community Schools (now ACS International) at the ACS head office in South Kensington. I was working for the HR Department, and Edna was Principal of ACS Hampstead. These were not happy times as the school owners had ‘over-extended’
and were required by their bankers to ‘downsize’, so the meeting was to discuss the closure of the four campuses which would all cease to operate at the end of the school year in June. Only ACS Cobham and Hillingdon would be retained.
