The Needful is both a highly entertaining read and a serious consideration of the aims and realities of international education. It should appeal not just to the international education community but also to a more general audience. A novel can say a great deal about the realities of life in an international a school, its reason for existence and the challenges that face a school head. It certainly brought back memories of my own time as a head.
