ISJ November 2014: Peace education beyond the mission statement

Numerous mission statements of international schools explicitly list a desire to develop students who can make a contribution to a more peaceful world. Drawing from the field of peace education, this article analysis what ‘educating for peace’ might look like and what this means for teachers in terms of their professional pedagogy. Adopting these pedagogical implications will allow educators in the field of international education to move from the narrative of peace in their schools’ mission statements towards a genuine education for peace in their classrooms.
