ISJ May 2020: Historical Vignette – A Reflection on the ‘Why’ of ECIS

It was the Autumn of 1962, and 3 nuns and a number of other heads of American and international schools met in a bar in Beirut… Sounds like the beginning of a rather dubious joke, but out of that meeting ECIS was created, which quickly became a highly respected organization, supporting schools around the globe, with a variety of services and information. ECIS stands for the European Council of International Schools, where some of the school members are American Schools overseas but increasing numbers of British schools overseas and international schools became members, creating a truly global community of educators.
