ISJ May 2020: Book Review – Perspectives on the IB Diploma Core, edited by Judith Fabian, Mary Hayden and Jeff Thompson

10,00

It may be argued that Theory of Knowledge (ToK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay comprise the parts that are unique to the IB Diploma Programme. They form the core of the IBDP because they are non-elective components of the curriculum that are common to the experience of all candidates. This book, written by a selection of highly experienced practitioners and academics, reviews recent curriculum development involving the core. The chapters are organized under two section headings ‘The Nature of the Core’ and ‘The Core in Practice’ respectively. Throughout the book, the problems associated with educational assessment as applied to these parts of the IBDP are addressed. A brief foray into quantitative analysis demonstrates an interesting observation about the distribution of chapters in this book.
