ISJ April 2018: The essentials of international leadership Training and support for IB school leaders: a reflection on the workshops

The IB has recently created workshops for supporting and developing leaders in IB schools, including four considered to be the core elements of leadership. These workshops arose out of a perceived need by leaders as well as the IB for the organisation to provide training and support for IB school leaders. These workshops are not about how to implement the IB programmes in schools, as that information is readily available in a number of workshops already in place. The Leadership workshops were developed to address the significant impact of context on leadership (Dorfman et al, 2012; Walker & Riordan, 2010) and to help IB leaders understand and address the specific challenges of leading in culturally diverse settings (Calnin et al, 2017).
