Abstract:
Two Hearts is not only a cheesy Phil Collins song, but an idea to take a school from Good to Great. Below is my personal narrative of leading the redesign of Verdala Elementary School, a not for profit school in Malta.
During my interview for the position of Elementary Principal, January 2016, I was told this job is not for the faint hearted. With a new build underway, an imminent cascading refurbishment of seventeen PK-G5 classrooms, a newly defined vision, as well as a new 5 year strategic plan to be defined, the gauntlet was set. As a former chartered engineer, and in my 15th year as an educator I decided to accept – but honestly I had no idea what was to unfold.
